Peter was born 1786 in York County, PA, moved with his parents to Bedford County, and came to the Kittanning area about 1825 with six children of his own. He married the former Sarah Russell (born 1787), and they had four more children after coming to Armstrong County. Quoted from the original "Bowser Family History," it says, "Peter bought land on Pine Creek two miles east of the Allegheny River and raised a large family of ten children." In the census of 1850 (first to list names of children), I found the following:

PINE TOWNSHIP, ARMSTRONG COUNTY, PA. 1850
Peter Bowser, 64 male, farmer, $1500 real estate value
Sarah, 63 female
Loben, 22 male
Jeremiah, 18 male

The census record of 1860 shows:

PINE TOWNSHIP, ARMSTRONG COUNTY, PA. 1860 (Scrubgrass Post Office)
Peter Bowser, 71 male, retired farmer, $1400 real estate value, $200 personal property
Sarah, 71 female, housework

The census record of 1870 shows:

PINE TOWNSHIP, ARMSTRONG COUNTY, PA. 1870
Peter Bowser, 85 male, retired farmer, $2500 real estate value, $400 personal property
Sarah, 82 female, keeping house

The difference in the ten year span on their ages depended on what the census taker asked for and when he took the data. Some wanted the previous birthdate and others asked the age on your next birthday be given. Taking this into consideration, I feel certain that the three listings above are one in the same family. In the "Bowser History," the children of Peter and Sarah Russell Bowser are given as follows:

Elizabeth Bowser, b. 1811
Mary Bowser, b. 1813; m. Abram Swigart
Martha Bowser, b. 1815, d. Oct. 12, 1877; m. Jacob Bowser (son of Joseph Bowser, son of Noah Bowser), b. 1806; d. June 9, 1868
John Bowser, b. 1816
Mathias Bowser, b. 1819; d. 1909; m. Sarah H. Baum, b. 1825
Jane Bowser, b. Dec. 21, 1821; d. Jan. 22, 1901; m. Peter Bowser (son of Valentine Bowser)
Sally Bowser, b. 1825
Margaret Bowser, b. 1826
Loben Bowser, b. July 16, 1828; d. Jan. 11, 1912; m. Martha Jane Oliver, b. Oct. 14, 1829; d. June 29, 1879
Jeremiah Bowser, b. 1832

Sarah Bowser (Peter's wife) must have died between 1870 and 1880 because no mention of her is made in Peter's will of 1880. According to a petition filed with the estate at Armstrong County Court House, M.P. Bowser executor, prepared to sell "about one hundred acres of land with a log house one story high about 18 to 20 square feet and a log barn about 22 by 54 feet with a log cabin and other out buildings thereon erected and about seventy-five acres cleared and under fence with a large orchard of apples, peaches, pears and cherries. With an excellent spring of good water worth about $1500 to $1800." Jeremiah was bequeathed "the piece of land where I now live containing forty-seven acres more or less." I having by deed conveyed the same to him previous to the date of this will together with whatever personal property he has already got." --transcribed from Peter's will. (Docket Entry Volume 2, page 361, Estate No. 3670.) Papers in the Estate folder stated that Peter died January 1, 1880. It is not known where he or his wife might be buried.
