DeLeon Clyde "Poncho" Adams, 80, of Cleveland passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 1, 2023 at Tennova Hospital.

He was born November 24, 1943 in Fort Meade, Florida and attended Palm Beach High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. A welder by trade for more than 50 years, he worked at Estee Manufacturing in Cleveland alongside his good friend Bo Morris, then later at Astec Industries and C.W. Matthews Contracting Company until his retirement.

Poncho's favorite season of the year was NASCAR season. He loved the "old school" Nascar days watching his buddy Bill Elliott race and later carried on that love for Bill's son, Chase. Poncho inherited his family's huge love and knowledge of gardening and that "Adams green thumb", often growing an abundance of fruits and vegetables that he graciously shared with his family and community.

DeLeon was preceded in death by his Mom, Zelda Louise Cooner Adams (1943); Daddy and Mother, Lawrence and Mary Adams; beloved brother-in-law Peck Harrell; brothers, Richard Adams and Spencer Adams; sister, Marilyn Adams Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Mary Rose and their son Robbie; former spouse Joyce Adams and their children; daughters, Debra Louise Bain, Lisa Adams Sexton and Sarah Lisabeth Hitson; son, Lawrence "Larry" Adams and his wife Candi; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and Lisa's fiancé Wayne Mallett, whom he adored and considered his son-in-law.

At 8 years old, DeLeon met Joyce Greene and they quickly became friends. A short 12 years later, they married, raised 4 wonderful children, instilling in them the importance of love, respect and family values. They were an important part of each other's lives for over 70 years.

He is also survived by his brothers Edward (Delta) Adams of Arcadia, Florida and Lawrence Adams, Cross City, Florida; sisters Zelda Harrell, Zolfo Springs, Florida, Virginia (Milton) Cochran, Bowling Green, Florida, Carolyn (Brian) Long, Melbourne, Florida, and Linda Adams Quinn, Bartow, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly; his gumbada for over 50 years, Billy (Theresa) Burgess of North Carolina and his pet duck, Crappie.

Pallbearers will include his grandsons, Davey Rymer and Brandon Sexton, along with Billy Burgess, Bo Morris, Wayne Mallett and TJ Smith.

A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland Pastor Joseph Hanshaw officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
