Daniel was born October 18, 1943, in Russellville, AR to Quentin Earl Baker and Carol Jean Burgess Baker.

On August 3, 1975, he married Sheryl Haught at Fifth Street Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Carol Baker; two sons, Brian Baker (Liz) of Marceline, MO, and Brett Baker (Susan) of Cairo, MO; three grandchildren, Daniel Baker, Aryn Baker, and Matthew Baker; one sister, Sara Ford of Lancaster, VA; and nieces and extended family, all of whom will miss him greatly.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Quentin Baker.

Daniel was proud to be a graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia, there he earned both his Bachelor of Science and master's degrees in education. He was a lifelong learner and continued his studies at Baylor University, Northern Illinois University, Western Washington State University, and Benedictine College.

Professionally, Daniel was a science teacher for thirty-four years, with nearly all those in a classroom at Hannibal Junior High/Hannibal Middle School. Upon his retirement from the classroom, he worked for nearly thirteen years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at the Hannibal Regional District Office, a position in which he said he had felt blessed to help others overcome their disabilities.

Being a lifelong learner, reading was Daniel's favorite pastime. He favored nonfiction with the Bible being at the top of his list. The abibliophobia which he experienced throughout his life was managed by pleasurable visits to Barnes and Noble and public library book sales. Daniel was an avid fan St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and in the winter months enjoyed NBA games, especially the Oklahoma Thunder and Golden State Warriors. Locally, spending a Saturday afternoon in the stands at a Quincy University Hawks football game or basketball was one of his favorites things to do. Daniel also loved live performances of theatre and music, going as far back as the Icehouse in Hannibal, and more recently performances at the Quincy Community Theatre. Even on vacations, Daniel would include a play, concert, or art museum when possible. Most of all, Daniel cherished every moment with his family and grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Darren Rogers, Stephen Newman, Bob Campen, Shea Campen, Ron Haught Jr. and Rich Gibson.

Honorary pallbearer will be Shawn Haught.
