Jane Clancy Debenport, 88, of Temple, passed away after a brief struggle with cancer on December 4, 2023 at her home.
Jane was born October 1, 1935 in Austin to James "Jack" and Martha Elizabeth (Moore) Clancy. She grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to the Temple area in 1997.
She graduated (cum laude) Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Jane was an accomplished organist and held a Choir Master Certificate from the American Guild of Organists. Over the years she served Churches of various denominations as Choirmaster/Organist. She worked as adjunct faculty with several colleges and universities as a vocal coach/teacher. At least one of her students has gone on to perform on Broadway. She, herself, performed opera at many venues and held workshops in musical performance internationally. In Bell County, she founded and directed the Schola Cantorum and the Bell County Recorder Society.
She was a true Renaissance woman. She was a licensed private pilot, an amateur radio operator, a poet, a published composer of music and author of two books. She delighted her family with hand crafted gifts which she: knitted, tatted, sewed, quilted and crocheted. As an avid genealogist, she extensively researched her own family's history as well as those of numerous friends and clients. She was a member of several genealogical societies serving as an officer at the local and state levels.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, Charles H. Debenport.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Coke and husband, Barry Pledger of Waco and Jessica Wilds and husband, Sam of Temple; a son, Joel Andrew Huddleston and wife, Pamela of Elgin, Texas; grandchildren: Amanda Coke, Joshua Coke and wife Amber, Jack Wilds and wife Noel, Andy Wilds and wife Mary and Crystal Huddleston; great-grandchildren: Alex Jimenez, Paisley Coke, Harper Coke, Thomas Wilds and Sam Wilds; two brothers: Jim Clancy and wife Judy of Dallas and Phillip Clancy and wife Judi of Whitewright and several nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Jane will be interred at the Dover Cemetery in Hubbard Texas after a private, family graveside ceremony.
