Mrs. Edna Christine Jones Matthews, 76, of Valdese, passed away on Saturday December 2, 2023, at the Cambridge House, after a period of declining health.
Christine was born December 24, 1946, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Gilbert C. Jones, Jr. and Emma Christine Jensen Jones.
Christine was full of love for everyone she came in contact with. She loved to sing, write poetry, and she along with her husband, Wayne, were a mission team. They would visit hospitals, nursing centers and anyone else that needed caring for. She lived her faith well.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Annette Jones Reese.
Surviving are her loving husband, Wayne Alvin Matthews of the home, a brother, Gilbert C. Jones, III and wife Jane of Valdese and a sister, Mary Dawn Hollingsworth and husband Chet of Dover DEL. Also surviving are one brother-in-law, three sisters in-law, five nieces, one nephew, three great nieces and three great nephews.
Funeral Services for Christine Jones Matthews will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 6, 2023 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Tim Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 Until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
A private family only Interment will follow in the Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery.
