Eddie Hilbert Myers, 58, of Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 14, 2005) at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1946, in Salisbury, Mr. Myers was a son of the late Wade Myers and Mary Ruth Shoaf Myers. He was a 1964 graduate of West Rowan High School and a 1968 cum laude graduate of Catawba College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. While at Catawba, he was a Whitener Award recipient. In 1969, he graduated from Appalachian State University with a master 's degree in counseling and psychology. From 1970-1971, he did post graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 2005, Mr. Myers retired after nearly 36 years of service with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, where he served as vice president emeritus of Student Services. He was the 2005 recipient of the school 's Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Myers was a member of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce and a former chairman of the Education Committee. He worked with the N.C. Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association, making it one to be emulated by other community colleges across the nation. He served as state adviser to the executive board of that association. He was active for many years in the Carolina Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers. At RCCC, he coached men 's basketball from 1971-1972 and women 's softball from 1982-1992. From 1982-1994, he also coached women 's softball for Coor 's Light and Jim 's Barbecue. He was the chair of the N4CSGA Softball Tournament. He was an active member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and the CrossTalk Sunday School Class. He held various other positions, including chairman of the Scholarship Committee and the church 's administrative board . For the past 15 years, Mr. Myers was fire commissioner for the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Diana Collins Myers, whom he married Oct. 2, 1976; daughter Erin Renee Myers, of the home; brother Wade W. Myers Jr. and wife Sybil of Salisbury; and sister Judy M. Orrell and husband Tony of Churchland. Service : A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Milford Hills United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Hockett. Visitation : 6-8 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home.
