Rulon was born of goodly parents, Nathan Tanner Porter and Nellie Faye Ferrin, August 12, 1937 in Jackson, Wyoming.

He served the Lord on a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1958 thru 1960 in the Northern Far East Mission - Korea, where he made many life long friends.

On October 6, 1961, he married his eternal companion Donna Deakin in the Salt Lake Temple. They had ten wonderful children he deeply loved and always showed tender concern.

Rulon had a love for life and for people around him. He was a great tease. His smile, personality, and warm dispostion lightening many lives.

He worked at various jobs and he and Donna made a welcoming home where ever they lived. The last ten years of his life he enjoyed working for Zions Securities Corporation, and living in Woods Cross and Tooele, Utah.

Rulon died of cancer at home in Tooele on the 1st day of February 2003, leaving behind his sweetheart, Donna of 41 years and the greatest family around, his ten children; sister-in-law Joyce Thomas; father and mother-in-law whom he adored, Gordon and Marie Deakin; 22 grandchildren and many family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Thomas; granddaughter Shelbey Porter; sister-in-law, Jan Robinson and nephew Billy Thomas.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wood Cross 2nd Ward Chapel, 1500 South 800 West. Friends called Wednesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Thursday morning from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
