Clifford Theodore Shumate, 88, Westridge Lane, Paris, died Saturday, June 21, 2003. Born in Fleming County, KY, he was the son of the late Oney Theodore and Maude Bebee Shumate. He was the beloved husband of Carrie Spivey Shumate. Mr. Shumate was one of the founders of Giffin Manufacturing Company in Carlisle, in 1948. In 1964 he became Executive Vice President and Director of Blue Grass Industries, Inc., which had manufacturing facilities in five Central Kentucky cities, and he remained in that position until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Carlisle, KY. In addition, he was a member of Dougherty Lodge #65, F&AM of Carlisle, and the Oleika Shrine Temple of Lexington. He was also Past Worthy Patron of Marie Chapter, OES of Carlisle. Besides his wife of 69 years, he is survived by one son, C. Wayne Shumate and his wife Kay, of Paris, KY; one daughter, Rose Carol Shumate, of Fort Walton Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Clifford W. (Kim) Shumate, Jr., Sara Paige Shumate (Dan) Short, Stephen A. Myers, Jeffery Thomas (Victoria) Myers; and five great grandchildren, Ian Michael Myers, Stephanie Michelle Myers, Joshua Taylor Myers, Bryan Shumate Short, and Kaylyn Bailey Shumate; and one great great grandson, Jacob Bradley Myers. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Paris by Rev. Jeff Bell. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in Bourbon County. Casket bearers are Stephen Myers, Jeffery Myers, Clifford Shumate, Jr., Dan C. Short, Bryan Short, and Ian Myers. Honorary bearers are Sara Paige Short, Kim B. Shumate, Kaylyn Shumate, Victoria Myers, Joshua Myers, Stephanie Myers, Dorothy Daugherty, Billy Williams, and Bruce Snowden. Guest book at Legacy.com
