Mrs. Bishop and her husband were the proud developers of Lake Ioni, where she dedicated over 30 years of service as a secretary and ran the water department from 1971-2021. Their dedication to their community was unwavering and their efforts have left a lasting legacy that will be cherished by future generations.
She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church Slocum and Yupon Gardening Club, where she shared her passion for nature and nurtured many lifelong friendships. She was a woman of many talents, but her love for gardening stood out. Her green thumb transformed the landscapes around her, creating beauty wherever she went. Known for her culinary skills, Mrs. Bishop was a great cook. Her kitchen was a place of joy and warmth, where she lovingly prepared meals that brought her family together. Her recipes, passed down through generations, will continue to be a source of comfort and connection for her loved ones.
Mrs. Bishop was a strong woman with a big heart. Her resilience and courage were an inspiration to all who knew her. She faced life's challenges with grace and dignity, always putting her family first. Her love for her family was evident in the way she cared for and nurtured them. She was a guiding light, a source of wisdom and love that will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Egbert Hamilton Bishop, and her dear daughter, Nancy Lynn Bishop Byrd; sisters, Louise Cloud, Edith Lester, and Edna Burnett; brother, Noble Thompson, and Roy Thompson; and grandson, Ryan Bishop.
Mrs. Bishop was the cherished matriarch of her family. She was the proud mother to her sons, Charles Bishop and his wife Barbara, Steve Bishop and his wife Voiza, and Mark Bishop and his wife Dana. She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Paul Bishop and wife Wendy, Stephanie Kaup and husband Keith, Matthew Bishop and wife Meredith, Craig Bishop and wife Tiffany, Karin Straus and husband Nathan, Alan Bishop, Jeniffer Oddo, Aaron Byrd and wife Kari, Adam Byrd and wife Michelle, and Austin Byrd. She also leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren and granddaughter-in-law, Mattie Ford. Each of them carries a piece of Freddie's spirit, her love for life and her unwavering strength.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Rhone Funeral Home.
A Funeral service to honor Mrs. Bishop's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Rhone Memorial Chapel with Steven Evers officiating the service. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Slocum.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers during the service are her grandsons.
