George Claycomb was the son of German immigrants that arrived in America in 1753. The family settled in Pennsylvania and that was where George was born. Around 1773, when George was 3, the family moved to Berkeley County, Virginia (current day Hedgesville, West Virginia). From there, George moved to Kentucky; probably around 1800. In Kentucky, he married Charlotte Wheeler (1787-1855) on June 6, 1801. He was 31 and she was 14. They had one child together; a son named George.

George died in 1813 at age 43. It is uncertain where he died (some sources suggest Fairfax County, Virginia) and the cemetery is unproven but many in his family were buried here during this period.

In 1819, his wife Charlotte remarried to Joseph Brashear (1770-1856) and had at least four more children. She lived another 42 years after George's death and was buried beside her second husband.
