Obituary is from the Currie Funeral Home & Crematory (Kilmarnock, Va.) website, posted November 27, 2023:

Gloria Ann Abbott, 77, of Woodstock, VA died on November 24, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Gloria was born on May 22, 1946, in Kilmarnock, VA and was raised in Lancaster, VA. She was the daughter of Bernard Anthony Sr. and Lottie (Conrad) Anthony, both deceased; and was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin F. Abbott Jr.; two daughters, Wendy Marie Barton and Lynn Michelle Abbott; three brothers, Randolph Anthony, Bernard Anthony Jr., and George Anthony; and two sisters, Dorothy Efford and Diana Lowery. She is survived by her son, James Abbott and wife Bethany, granddaughter Jamisen and grandson Bryson, all of Centreville, VA; Drena (Donnie) Smith of Wicomico Church, VA, Naomi Anthony of Mineral, VA and Larry Anthony of Dutton, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Soon after graduating from Lancaster High School, Gloria and her late husband Ben moved to Northern Virginia where she went to work as a civil servant for the Federal Government. Her job locations included the United States Navy Annex, The Pentagon, and finished at the United States Agriculture Department where she retired in 2005 after 28 years of government service. After retirement, Gloria and Ben moved to Woodstock, VA to enjoy the small-town life.

Gloria loved her husband Ben very much and they were married for 48 years before his passing. There was no one she would have taken the journey of life with more than him. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; a very caring person who always put others in front of herself; and a strong-willed fighter to the very end.

Visitation will be Tuesday November 28, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Currie Funeral Home (E Church St., Kilmarnock, VA 22482). Funeral services will be graveside at White Marsh Church (11040 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster, Virginia 22503) on Wednesday November 29, 2023 at 10am with Reverend Blythe officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the COPD Foundation
