SERIOUS ACCIDENT
H. S. Crowley, well-known resident of the county, was the victim of what, it is feared, will prove a fatal accident near McDowell Tuesday evening while attempting to step from the running-board of an automobile while the machine was moving. Mr. Crowley has been employed with the force of men building the new road north of McDowell, and on the evening named several of the hands were going to McDowell, after working hours, when overtaken by a traveling man by name of Richcreek. The salesman kindly offered the tired men a lift, and there not being room for all in the car. Mr. Crowley, and possibly another one of the crowd stood on the running-board. When Mr. Crowley's home was reached in McDowell, and before Mr. Richcreek could stop the car, the unfortunate man stepped off and was thrown to the ground with such violence as to cause a fracture of the skull. He has never regained consciousness, and his physicians hold out no hope of recovery.
