Obituary from the Xenia Daily Gazette and Torchlight, Wednesday, September 11, 1889, Xenia, Greene County, Ohio:
Mrs. Hannah Swigart, of near Bellbrook, died last evening at 8 o'clock after 3 weeks illness of a complication of diseases. Mrs. Swigart was one of a large family of children, most of whom are dead. Mrs. Joseph Frye, of this city, being a surviving sister. (S. Josephine Patterson) Her maiden name was Patterson, and when a little child, she came with her parents to this county, where she has since resided. At the age of 18 she was married on December 27, 1859 to Jonathan Rike, who a few years afterward sacrificed his life in our Civil War, leaving her 1 son, now Dr. J. H. (Harry) Rike, of California. In January, 1867, she was united in marriage to Mr. Michael Swigart, an influential farmer, who still survives her, and by whom she had 1 son, Oscar Swigart, who resides at home.
Mrs. Swigart was a beautiful woman in face, character, and a valued member of the Reformed Church, always living the humble Christian life she professed. As a wife and mother she was affectionate and loving, as a neighbor always kind and always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be sadly missed by many friends, but all have the consolation of knowing that she is at rest in the home of her father. The funeral services will take place tomorrow, Thursday at 1 o'clock at the Mt. Zion Church, being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Steele, assisted by Rev. Yockey, of this city.
