Information on Mary Jane Dawdy taken from the autobiography of James Dowdy Taylor. Records have some differences on spellings. No direct records of her death or burial known at this time but would most likely be in buried in Hart County as she lived and died there. Searching is difficult because Ninian Mobley Taylor appears to have married another Jane when Mary Jane died who was also born in 1805, so she shows up on all records as Jane Dowdy and the same age…after Mary Jane died. I believe Jane his second wide has a maiden name of Butler.

"My mother was the daughter of James and Mary [Moss] Dowdy (note that records list Margaret Morse). She was born in Hart County, Kentucky, on the 12th day of June, 1805, and died on January 17, 1845.

My mother had three brothers, John, Howell, and Jeff and four sisters, Mrs Phoebe White, Nancy Pointer, Elizabeth Monroe, and Sarah Anteberry.

My grandmother [Mary Moss] was the daughter of Samuel Moss and was born in Charlotte, N.C, in 1776. (Records show Margaret Morse born in 1769].

My grandparents, James and Mary Dowdy, on my mother's side, left Carolina and moved to Hart County, Kentucky in the year of 1804.

My grandparents, the Dowdy's, left Hart County in October 1845, and moved to Knox County, Illinois, where they both died later, having reached the ages of 86 and 87 respectively."

Based on this narrative, Mary Jane's parents arrived in Hart Kentucky just before her birth and moved away to Knox County, Illinois the year she died.
