FINAL RITES ARE TODAY FOR HARRY SURFUS, 78
A lifelong resident of DeKalb county, Harry Surfus, 78, passed away in the
DeKalb Memorial hospital in Auburn at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, following a heart
attack.
Mr. Surfus was taken to the hospital at 1:30 a.m. Thursday after suffering an
earlier heart seizure. He had also been a patient in the hospital for three
weeks in January for a coronary attack.
Mr. Surfus lived at the time of his death at his birthplace near the
DeKalb-Allen county line, 1/4 of a mile from county road 19, six miles south of
Auburn.
A son who survives, JOSEPH SURFUS, lives at the residence.
The son of the late SAMUEL and CATHERINE ROWLEY SURFUS, Mr. Surfus was born Aug.
27, 1889. He was a retired farmer.
The body was taken to the Gerig funeral home in Auburn, where Rev. Wallace Deyo,
pastor of the Auburn Methodist church will officiate at funeral services at 2
p.m. Monday.
Interment will take place in the Cedar Chapel cemetery south of Auburn.
In addition to the son, a sister, MISS FRANCIS SURFUS of Fort Wayne, also
survives.
Mr. Surfus was married in 1923 in Spencerville, to MARY WARNER, who passed away
in 1962.
