Martin Gann Beasley was my maternal great-grandfather.

He was born in Alabama to ?

He married Annie Bell Houston in ? and they had 8 living children, Eardeal?, Ozie Lee, Gertrude, Coy, Malon, Woodrow Wilson, Mattie Lou, and Fannie Bell. The second to the youngest is my beautiful grandmother, Mattie Lou, who later changed her name to Bettie when she moved to Tyler, Texas.

Martin raised his family on a farm in New Harmony, Texas, where his family attended the New Harmony Baptist Church and school there. My grandmother would speak of the "Hooptie" her daddy would drive into town. However, they always rode in a horse and carriage to church. Fannie Bell would talk about how they would walk to school.

After the death of his wife, Annie Belle, on November 27, 1919, he later remarried again to a woman named Fannie.

Martin Gann, known as Granddaddy to his grandchildren, remained in New Harmony until his death in 1953. It was still at a time that my mom remembers his body lay in wake in his casket in his home until his burial at the New Harmony Cemetery next to his loving first wife, Annie Belle.
