Richard Lee Fletcher, a North County land developer and longtime resident of Del Mar, passed away Sunday, June 13, due to coronary complications.

He was the son of Claire M. Fletcher and the late Eugene Fletcher of Rancho Santa Fe, as well as the grandson of the large San Diego pioneer family of Col. Ed and Mary Fletcher.

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1946, Fletcher moved and traveled extensively because his father was an Air Force career man. In 1958, the family returned to San Diego County, where they made their permanent home in Rancho Santa Fe.

Fletcher attended La Jolla Country Day School, where he was a member of the first graduating class, in 1964. He received his bachelor of arts degree in business from the University of Arizona in 1968. He later served with the National Guard.

In 1971, Fletcher moved to Colorado, where he met his wife. Jacqueline Hanssel, daughter of John and Elizabeth Hanssel. They were married in July 1974 in Buffalo, N.Y.

The couple returned to Colorado, where Fletcher became involved with the family real estate holdings. In 1976, the couple returned to California and made their home in Del Mar. Since returning to the San Diego area, Fletcher has been very active in the planning and development of North County.

Fletcher was a very active individual. His very favorite activity was surfing. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting, and had a strong passion for music. He also was active in different organizations in the community.

Fletcher is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; three daughters, Ellie, Zephyr and Molly; his mother, Claire M. Fletcher; and three brothers, Eugene Jr, David and Grant Fletchег.

A memorial service will be held at sea off 18th Street in Del Mar at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA. 200 Saxony Road, Encinitas; the San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation, 1945 Duke St., Chula Vista; or the Surfrider Foundation, 725 N. Rios Ave, Solana Beach, CA.
