James A. Ward, 89, of Yazoo City died Wed. August 8, 2007 of heart failure at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Funeral services were Aug. 11, 2007 at First Baptist Church with Dr. John Stevens officiating. Burial followed at Center Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Ward was born Sept. 20, 1917 to Joe Edward and Winnie Isonhood Ward. A retired master mechanic and an Army Veteran of World War 11, Mr. Ward was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Center Ridge Baptist Church. In 1961 he earned a doctor's degree in motors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Kinard Ward; and two sisters, Lillie Ward Glover and Emma Ward Guthrie. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ward of Yazoo City; son, James M. Ward of Arlington, Texas; two step-sons, Jeffrey Allen Milner and Thomas L. Milner Jr., both of Yazoo City; step-daughter, Delores Annette Milner of Yazoo City; three brothers, Edwin Lamar Ward and Charles Roy Ward, both of Yazoo City and Billy Gene Ward of Dallas; four sisters, Winnie Lee Richards and Carolyn Faye Washington, both of Yazoo City, Mary Elizabeth Castle of Belzoni and Betty Ann Fletcher of Hilton Head, S. C.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were nephews Lawrence Guthrie Jr., Brian Guthrie, Charles Perry, Tom Milner, Scott Viner, and Scott Ward. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Nicholas and Donald Counts. Punlished in Yazoo Herald on Aug. 15, 2007.
