J.W. Boyd N. CHARLESTON - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of J.W. Boyd, who passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the age of 91, in North Charleston, South Carolina. J.W. was a devoted husband, married to his beloved wife, Lillian Boyd, for 71 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. J.W. proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a chief boatswain's mate. His dedication to the Navy and his country was unwavering, and he was highly respected by his colleagues. Beyond his military service, J.W. was also a gifted carpenter. He had an innate talent for working with wood and could create anything he put his mind to. His passion for carpentry was evident in the many pieces of furniture and other items he crafted throughout his life. He was truly remarkable with his many talents and gifts; they will not soon be forgotten. J.W. is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Boyd; his six children and their spouses, Donna Marie Hayes of Dayton, OH, Larry Cline Boyd (Cindy) of West Columbia, SC, Catherine Devoll of Moncks Corner, SC, Paul George Boyd (Susie) of Townville, SC, Brenda Louise Teachey (Douglas) of Moncks Corner, SC, and Sharon Ann Guerra (Robert) of North Charleston, SC; as well as 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. J.W. will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched during his time on this earth. A visitation for J.W. will be held June 1, 2023 6:00-6:30PM for immediate family, and 6:30-8:00PM for the general public, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. A Catholic Mass Funeral Service will take place on June 2, 2023 from 11:30AM-12:30PM at St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church located at 6650 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. J.W. will be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Gardens with Naval Military Honors thereafter.
