He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962 and served 20 years, retiring in 1982 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1970, he married his wife, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage together.

Tom was also employed by the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, APWU and American Legion. He was a hard worker with an incredible work ethic, only retiring from his last job at age 66 due to health issues. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and bowler and loved to talk about his first job at the age of 15 manually setting bowling pins at the local bowling alley. In most recent years, he loved working crossword puzzles, visits to the casino with his wife, and having breakfast or lunch with family and friends at Julie's Restaurant. He was also a lifelong Packers fan and would enjoy watching the games. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandkids. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
