Claude Barstow Hawkins 1912 ~ 2007
MAGNA/WEST VALLEY CITY - Claude Barstow Hawkins, 94 died January 16, 2007 surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 8, 1912 in Barstow, CA to Alfred Davis Hawkins and Julia Ann Hurst. While working at a CCC camp he met his future wife, Donna Humphreys, at a dance in Hyrum, Utah. They were sealed for time and eternity Dec. 2, 1936 in the Logan Temple; she died July 27, 2006. Claude was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from the Kennecott Smelter as a carpenter after 34 years of service. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints and served as a home teacher, Lamanite missionary, bishopric councilor, ward clerk (20+ years), temple worker (25+ years), and many other callings. He loved gardening, reading, camping, watching ball games, going to family gatherings, and watching his family perform and participate in activities. He was a great organizer and a quiet man who led and taught by example. He loved the gospel and was faithful until the end.
Survived by his daughters, DeeAnn (George Verdell) Crosby, West Jordan, and Claudia (Jesse) Johnson, West Valley City; son-in-law, Thomas Raymond (Sherolyn) Egelund, Brigham City; sisters, Iola Kent and Edith Frandsen; 19 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Karen Marie Egelund; brothers, Alfred Leroy, Thomas, Phillip Lawrence, Clifton Otis, Rolla, Joseph Leon, and Clarence Orson; sisters, Sarah Rebecca Harvey, Phyllis Showgren, Edna Kent; and his parents.
After his wife's death he enjoyed living with his daughter, Claudia (Jesse) Johnson.
WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Hunter 23rd ward, 3665 S. 6000 W. in West Valley City. A viewing will be held Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S. Magna, and Saturday at the church 12-12:45 p.m. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
