Evangeline Kempf Obituary

ALGONQUIN – Evangeline "Vangie" C. Kempf, 78, of Algonquin Shores, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at home surrounded by family.

She was born in Mellen, Wis., to Roy and Margaret Butler on Oct. 8, 1934. She married Donald Kempf on May 7, 1955, in River Grove.

She worked for Oak Industries in Crystal Lake for 25 years. Shortly after retiring from Oak, she started watching children, helping to shape the lives of the 30 to 40 children she watched over the years. She was lovingly known as Grandma K, Big Grandma, K.K. and Mee Maw, as this was her true gift, nurturing these children. She enjoyed country music, especially Alan Jackson, spending time with family and friends, being in her camper, collecting roosters and raccoons, boat trips, shows, bowling, country/line dancing and making new friends. She also had a self-proclaimed love for food. She was a member of the Alan Jackson fan club and many senior citizens clubs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 2002; her parents; two sons, Nick in 2004 and Scott in 2011; three brothers, Allison (in infancy) in 1946, Roy in 2011, and Harold in 2012; a sister, June in 2005; a niece; and three nephews.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel Kempf, Chris (Nancy) Kempf of Algonquin Shores and Pete Kempf of McCullom Lake; a daughter, Laurie (Bill) Montanye of Huntley; 10 grandchildren, Billy (Bridget), Nicole (Arro), Mark (Rachael), Kurt (Megan), Tom (Crystal), Keith, Jenni, Jenna, Shane and Connie; nine great-grandchildren, Nikki, Brooke, Bailee, Logan, Kaitlynn, Christian, Paige, Lexi and Greta, and two more on the way; five brothers, Frank, Dick, George, Ronald and Clifford (Maxine); a sister, Donna; and 48 nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin.
