Daniel "Pops" Lee Anthony was the sixth of eight children born to Odis and Beatrice Anthony (née Gatlin) on Saturday, November 9, 1940. He finished his journey in this life exactly 83 years later on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Dan was born in Eustace, Texas and lived on Anthony Lane (now County Road 2919) until the age of six when the family moved to Dallas (although his children thought he had lived there MUCH longer based on the number of stories he told from those years).

After moving to Dallas, Dan recognized that the neighborhood needed a place close to home where families could easily pick up a loaf of bread, bag of sugar or other staples they may have forgotten on their last trip for groceries. He decided to meet that need by opening Dan's Grocery at the ripe old age of 10. That little store was the precursor to his years in the grocery industry during which he operated Anthony's Quickway locations in Riley, Mesquite, Seagoville and on Masters Drive in Dallas. Beginning in the late 1970s, he began his career as an independent contractor and opened A+ Maintenance.

The most pivotal moment in Dan's life came on New Year's Eve in 1957 when Kathy Sanderson, the cute girl who had just moved to Seagoville from Ferris, came to the Seagoville Church of Christ's youth group party. She decided to get his attention by throwing a pillow at him, and the rest was history. Dan and Kathy were inseparable from that night on and made it official when they got married in 1960. By 1968, they had become a family of five that included their three children--Marva, Debbie and Danny. That family has grown over the years to include nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Dan was a loving and devoted family man. He often commented that he did not understand men who would rather go out with friends after work than come home, and he prioritized spending all of his free time with his family. Dan and Kathy's beautiful love story continued for 34 years until Kathy passed away at the much-too-young age of 52 in 1994.

Dan found comfort and companionship over the past 28 years with his second wife Carolyn. They enjoyed traveling together to find antiques and collectibles, and their travels included a visit to Debbie in Massachusetts. Dan and Carolyn were both devoted to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished any opportunity to spend time with them. Dan also shared Carolyn's love of animals and, together, they rescued many including their dog Cyrus, and their beloved cats Baby and Patches.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice; father Odis; wife Kathy; brothers Delma Gene, Glen, Edward, and Don; and son-in-law Timothy Westmoreland. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; sister Margaret Moore; daughter Marva Adkins and her husband David Adkins; daughter Debbie Westmoreland; son Danny and his wife Paige; granddaughter Tabitha Harris and her husband Josh Harris; grandson Kenneth Grant and his wife Natalie Grant; granddaughter Lindsay Grant and her partner Armin Mejia; grandson David Adkins II; granddaughter Laci Anthony and her partner Keith Perry; granddaughter Hillary Anthony; granddaughter Madison George and her husband Dallas George; grandson Lane Anthony and his wife Aniston; grandson Chase Anthony; great-grandchildren Lillian, Laurin and Logan Harris; Kayden, Landen, Arden, and Neven Grant; Raelei Adkins; Marlie, Kali, Asher and Haizelee Perry; Kaia George; and Ripleigh Anthony; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Pops ended every phone call with a loved one by saying "I love you. Talk to you later. Bye, bye." From all those who loved him so much, "Bye, bye, Pops. We love you, we'll miss you and we'll talk to you later."
