Carl was born with a cranial defect, fatal in 1921. His skull did not completely cover his brain. The little boy only lived 8 days. Overcome by grief, his parents split up over the loss of Carl--his father blameing his mother for delivering "a defective son". Carl's then 4 year old sister, Marjorie, however never forgot her little brother. Shortly before she herself passed away in 1987, Marjorie made one last pilgrimage to Carl's gravesite (see photo).
