Aaron McAtee, 48, died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the UIHC.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday morning, November 15, 2023 at the Berndes Center (766 North Maple St) in Monticello. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. A private family interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be held at the Berndes Center, from 2 until 8 on Tuesday, November 14. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Aaron and his family into their care.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Please wear Kansas City Chiefs, Iowa, Hawkeye or Monticello Panther attire.

Aaron Thomas McAtee was born February 21, 1975, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Daniel and Becky Groth, McAtee. Aaron graduated from the Midland Community Schools in 1993.

He then started his long career with the Fareway Meat and Grocery Company. Starting with Monticello, Cedar Falls, Sioux City, New Hampton, Muscatine, Boone, Oelwein, Eldora and finally back to Monticello as the Meat Manager.

Along the way he married Kelly Lynn Gile on March 31, 2001, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming.

Aaron enjoyed all the sports in high school, especially basketball and football. That continued with his coaching of his son's various sports. He was an avid Chiefs, Hawkeye, and Monticello Panther fan. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
