SFC Ret. John B. Benthall October 9, 1924- July 13, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— SFC Ret. John B. Benthall, 82, of 4237 Willis St., Columbus, GA. died Friday, July 13, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Sconiers Funeral Home Chapel, 836 5th Ave., Columbus, GA. with the Rev. Wayne Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Main Post Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 12 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. SFC Benthall was born October 9, 1924 in Hertford County, N.C., the son of the late Frank L. and Nettie Benthall. He was retired with 20 years of service with the U.S. Army and was a WWII and a Korean veteran. A member of Allen Temple AME Church where he served on the Usher and Steward Boards faithfully. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Mrs. Sarah Benthall; his daughter, Ruby Dawsey, both of Columbus, GA.; his grandchildren, Jessica and Brandon Dawsey; two special nephews, Larry (Connie) Gaines, Raleigh (Montry) Benthall; one niece, Debra (Andy) Smallwood; two sisters in law, Stannie Mae and Gloria Holcomb; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
