William graduated from Swayzee High School in 1957 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he drove semi-trucks and was a mechanic and jack-of-all-trades. He loved his cars and enjoyed working on old cars and trucks. William especially loved his family and animals.
William is also survived by his children, Gregory and Soni Payne of Michigan, Leah Johnson of New York, and Christina Payne of Gas City; grandchildren, Trevor Payne, Jarod Payne, and Harley Payne; great-grandson, Jaiman; and sister, Mary Ann Parrie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; and brothers, Bill Mauller and Paul C. Payne.
A visitation and funeral service to celebrate William's life was held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Integrity Cremation & Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN., with Pastor Bill Sparks officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery.
