Cyrus Hubbard and Eliza Piper were married 16 Jan 1848, by Rev Myron I. Streator. [vol 1:64]

1850 census, Smith Twp, Mahoning Co, Ohio, p. 306, family and house number 177:
Cyrus Hubbard, age 30, laborer, born Ohio
Eliza, age 21, born Ohio
Ward B, age 1, born Ohio

Once descant wrote that Cyrus spent several years in Dakota during the civil war, and picked up a variant of pneumonia. After his discharge, he went back to Iowa, then went back to Dakota to get military medical benefits.

Eliza Hubbard, widow of Cyrus Hubbard's widow and minor pension file is at the National Archives. Information includes:
Cyrus Hubbard enrolled the 19 Nov 1862 at Iowa City in Co I, 6th Regiment of Iowa Cav. Volunteers for 3 yrs of service; mustered in as private of Capt. Benj. King's , 2 Feb 1863 at Davenport, IA. On the muster rolls of Co I from enrollment to June 30, 1863; reported present July and Aug and reported absent sick at Fort Randall, Dakota Terr.; Sep and Oct 1863 absent sick in hospital at Sioux City; absent sick to June 30; July and Aug 1864 on detached service at Fort Randall; same to Oct 1864; Nov & Dec 1864 in arrest at Ft Randall same to Feby 28, '865; Mar and Apl 1865 present; mustered out with detachment May 24, 1865 at Yankton, Dakota Terr.

Born in Portage Co, Ohio, age 42, five feet, 10 in high, fair complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.

... that her husband returned from the army in feeble health, and chronic diarrhea, and weakness in the lungs, that he had been at home for some time unable to do anything towards procuring subsistence, he went to Dakota Territory for the benefit of his health and at the same time to secure a homestead; that he went to, or near to, Fort Rice,and while there (he was doing some work for the Government to procure subsistence) he got worse, and as she was informed by a comrade who was there when he did, and who had gone there with him he lingered a while and died of consumption. Where the comrade alluded to is no, she is unable to state, she then could learn but little concerning the manner of his life and death while there, and the only official information of his death until she received the information herewith enclosed, from the post surgeon of Fort Rice, was a claim made upon her for the payment of the burial expenses of her husband, which she paid.
