Mr. Chas. J Conn died at his home in this city last Friday afternoon, aged 78 years. Mr. Conn was born in New Hampshire, and came to Elkhart in 1849. He was principal of the public schools of this city for a number of years, after his arrival here. The last years of his life were devoted to assisting in the work of building up the great musical instrument factory of his son, C. G. Conn. Mr. Conn left three children, Chas. G. Corn, Mrs. H. C. Dodge and Miss Ella Conn. His companion preceded him to the grave about three years ago. The funeral was held Sunday at 2 o'clock. All the bands in the city joined in the procession, and the remains were followed by the employes of Conn's factory on foot, as well as by hundreds of sorrowing relatives and friends. At the grave Conn's battery conducted the ceremonies. Mr. Conn carried with him to the grave the love and respect of the people of Elkhart.
