Obituary - Gilbert Rites
November 29, 1965

Funeral rites for George W. Gilbert, 81, Moundville area farmer who died Saturday morning, were conducted this afternoon at the Ferry Funeral Chapel. The Rev. E. A. Stoddard, Jr., officiated and interment was in the Moore Cemetery.

Mr. Gilbert died at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at his home. His death was unexpected although he had been in failing health for the past five years. Mrs. B. R. Kapple, organist, played "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Pallbearers were: Bruce Grimes, George A. Robinson, Kenney Emery, Jim Woods, Carl Fife and Rod Bastow.

Mr. Gilbert was born Oct. 14, 1884, in Kansas City, the son of George W. and Lydia Geary Gilbert. He was employed as a foreman on the Vernon County bridge crew for 15 years prior to retirement.

In 1906, Mr. Gilbert was married at Merriam, Kan., to Iva (Ina) W. Reiger, who survives. The Gilberts have made their home southwest of Nevada six miles in the Sylvan Dale area for the past 32 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iva (Ina) Gilbert of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Jay (Mildred) Robinson of Nevada; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. George Holland of Kansas City.
