Born in Lafayette on Aug. 28, 1915, he was the son of the late Theodore and Anna Berkland Carlson. He was a 1934 graduate of Jefferson High School and graduated from Purdue University in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree in science.
He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force for more than 25 years before retiring.
Mr. Carlson worked for several years for The Sportsman sporting goods store in downtown Lafayette.
He enjoyed playing tennis, playing into his 80's, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Purdue athletics. He was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association.
Surviving is a sister, Myrle Alford of West Lafayette. Also surviving are two nieces, Catharine Siegel of Toronto, Canada, and Hallie Siegel Donovan (husband: Matt) of Zurich, Switzerland.
