In the early 1940's Willie moved to Los Angeles and began working for the Dept. of Water and Power, where he retired after more than twenty years of service. Soon after making his home in California, Willie married Helen, a union that resulted in many years of happiness until she was called to meet the Lord just 91 days before his homegoing. The two of them joined Ward AME Church and began serving on Usher Board No 1 as a committed and faithful member.
Those who are left to celebrate Willie's union with the Lord is one stepson Walter Porter of San Diego, one Foster daughter, Diane Dudley in Los Angeles, one sister Eunice Penn of Milwaukee, one Aunt Alice Green of Los Angeles,eleven nieces and fifteen nephews who live in various parts of the country.
