Norman Dean Roberts, 87, of Coahoma, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Myers & Smith Chapel, Friday at 10 am with interment in Fairview Cemetery, Bronte, TX.

Norman was born July 10, 1935 in Robert Lee, TX.

He was raised and educated there, graduating from Robert Lee High School where he was an outstanding athlete.

Norman went on to attend San Angelo Jr. College on a football scholarship again proving himself to be a star player. He was All American two years while there. He went on to East Texas State University becoming All American there and being able to play on two Tangerine Bowl games in Florida while he was a member of the team which won both games and Norman was named MVP in the 1957 game against Southern Mississippi.

Following graduation, Norman was drafted by the Pittsburg Steelers, NFL franchise.

Wanting to teach and coach at the high school level, Norman returned to West Texas and "spent a lifetime" following that vocation. He taught and coached at Wilson High School, Knox City, Rocksprings, Frenship High School in Wolfforth, TX, Coahoma, Eldorado, and eventually back to Coahoma to finish his coaching career.

Following that he went to work in the oil field business only slowing down in his later years.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Len Roberts and Fern Webb Roberts; his wife Hattie Jane (Snead) Roberts whom he married in Lee County, NM on November 17, 1956; and a son, Terry Roberts.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheri Whitten (Danny Dishman); son, Gary Roberts and his wife Kim; daughter-in-law, Shanna Roberts; four grandchildren, Stephen, Lance, Kali, and Corey; ten great-grandchildren, Tres, Justin, Payton, Andrew, Laney, Lane, Hayden, Boone, Huxton, and Terryn Jo; two great-great-grandchildren, Judge and McKinsley; extended family members and numerous friends.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Allen, Bill Lewis, Terry Meeks, Stanley Phillips, Steve Wolf, Doug Randel, and Robert Lee.
