18 YEARS' RECTORSHIP OF FENNY COMPTON - Leamington Spa Courier - 5th April 1929
**************************************************************************************
The death took place on Maundy Thursday of the Rev. James Redgate Brown, L.Th., F.R.G.S., F.R.S.S., Rector of Fenny Compton since 1911. Mr Brown had enjoyed remarkably good health all through life, and his death followed a few days illness from bronchial pneumonia.

There was a large attendance of villagers at the funeral on Monday morning. The committal was taken by the Bishop of Coventry, the service being read by the Rev. J. H. Woodman, of Priors Marston. The Rev. O. M. Jones, Rural Dean of Southam read the lesson. Also present were the Revs. S. M. Rankin (Farnborough), W. Westacott (Burton Dassett), P. W. Daimpre ( Harbury), J. H. Jackson (Claydon), and E. M. Meyler (Wormleighton), the last named acting as chaplain to the Bishop. The interment was in a grave by the side of the late Rector's wife, who died in August, 1923.

Educated at St. Aidan's School and Durham University, Rev. Brown was ordained a priest in York Minster in 1874. His first curacy was at Stannington, Yorkshire, and his first incumbency at Oughtibridge, Sheffield. In 1881 he was presented to the living of St. Mark's, Ford, Devonport, and was Rector of Godington, Oxfordshire, from 1907 to 1911, when he exchanged livings with Canon G. S. Streatfield, who had held the rectory of Fenny Compton a number of years.

We regret to say that the Rector's son and daughter, Mr. F. H. Brown and Miss E. W. Brown, are seriously ill, and were unable to attend the funeral. On Monday, Dr. Pirie, of Harbury, removed the son to a Leamington nursing home where he is suffering from pneumonia. Miss Brown is confined to her room with pleurisy. Mrs. Hood, the Rector's sister-in-law, was the chief family mourner at the funeral.
