Robert Laverne Boomer, 95 of Empire, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023.
Robert was at home with family. Robert (Bob) was born on December 14, 1927 in Hinsdale, IL to the late John and Myrtle (Huffman) Boomer.
Bob spent the majority of his life in and around Empire, MI.
Bob was a rural letter carrier "The Mail Man", farmer and the family patriarch. He and his wife Jane (Haywood) Boomer were married in 1951 and spent their lives in the same house on the family farm. Bob and Jane began planting cherry trees in 1965 and Bob wanted to continue planting more until the moment he passed. He was passionate about raising cherries and anything to do with tending his farms. He took great pleasure in growing "Buckhorn Orchards" into a large producer of tart and sweet cherries.
As a husband, father and grandfather, Bob provided the template as to how a man should conduct himself. He was solely focused on his work and providing for his family. He was a voracious reader with a quick wit and gleaming twinkle in his eye. His kindness had no limit but his respect had to be earned. The man was beyond unique and will forever inspire those of us lucky enough to know him as Dad, Grandpa and Friend.
Bob is survived by his children, Connie Woodcock, John (Marijane) Boomer, Cliff Boomer and son in law Bruce Remai. Also surviving are Bob's grandchildren Kendra Remai, Dana, Josh, Tristan, Oliver, Jasper and Sawyer Boomer and nieces and nephews too numerous to list. Bob was predeceased in death by his wife Jane and his daughter Karen (Boomer) Remai.
Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Traverse City. A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Leelanau County, where Bob and Jane will be laid to rest.
