NEWTON FALLS — James D. Peace, 83, went to be with the Lord at 4:43 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023.

He was born Jan. 10, 1940, in Clinton, South Carolina, the son of the late James C. and Margaret Elledge Peace.

James "Don" was a 1958 graduate of Newton Falls High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Becky Shipman, in 1960; and they were blessed with 63 years of marriage.

James retired from WCI in January 2001 after 41 years of service.

He attended and was actively involved at Chestnut Ridge Church of God, where he was a minister of music from 2001 to 2007, but remained very much involved, until this sudden, ugly head of cancer appeared, in June 2023.

Prior to Chestnut Ridge, James had attended the Newton Falls Church of God for 48 years. He was actively involved in the various working and served in many areas of both churches throughout the years, singing, teaching and serving on various boards.

He had served as a Scout leader, Little League coach and adult softball coach. He enjoyed bowling, golf, baseball, flying and taking his '63 Lincoln to car shows, both local and statewide, with his good friend, Ron Huffman. James was proud of the many trophies he won with his car, especially his first-place trophy at the national level in Michigan. He proudly served on his NEO Board of Lincoln Club.

Memories of James will be carried on by his wife, Becky, and their children, their son, James D. (Michele) Peace of Newton Falls, and daughter, Vickie Peace of Newton Falls; and also sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Andy) Hospodor of Cortland; grandsons, Adam Peace of Cleveland and Austin Peace of Newton Falls; bonus acquired grandson, Daniel Leeworthy and his sons, Carter and Theodore of Texas; bonus acquired children, LeAnn Birkheimer, Nancy Hoffman and Cheryl Burless; uncle, Lorance Peace of Taylors, South Carolina; and aunt, Juanita Coates of Campobello, South Carolina. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents, and by his twin brothers, Eddie and Freddie.

At his request, cremation has taken place.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service noon Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at Chestnut Ridge Church of God, 7215 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard, where calling hours will be 11 a.m. until noon, with Pastor Rob McFarland officiating.

Private graveside services will be at a later date, in Newton Falls Cemetery.

Special thank you to any and all who helped in any way as we went through these past few months. A special thank you to those who spent hours putting together a ramp for him to use, if he were to have made it home again. All the cards, visits, phone calls and prayers were really a special blessing to Don.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, 330-872-5440. Family and friends may view his obituary online or to send condolences, visit www.jamesfuneralhomeinc.com.
