Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Born Aug. 27, 1926 in Doerun, he was the son of the late Joe B. Cox Sr. and Lena Etta McEver Cox.
He farmed the family farm until he volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1942. During the course of World War II, he served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer, which took him to different countries around the world. After his tour of duty, he married Eunice Ford on Jan. 1, 1949.
In 1953, he went to work for Texas Eastern Gas Company in Moultrie. He worked in several positions, retiring Feb. 2, 1991 as manager of Empire Gas Co., completing 38 years of service with Texas Eastern. He was a member of Kingwood Baptist Church. "Joe loved his family and his customers and he enjoyed fishing and gardening," his family remarked.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Johnston; his son-in-law, Johnny A. Harrell; three sisters, Zonie Hall, Nadine Mitchell and Garnita Simmons; and two brothers, Clyde Cox and Robert Cox.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Eunice Ford Cox of Moultrie; one daughter, Vickie Harrell of Moultrie; a son-in-law, Bill Johnston of Moultrie; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and other family members.
