CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Our beloved, wife, mother, and grandmother, Marie Burley, 91, passed away on January 10 at the Gardens of Western Reserve in Cuyahoga Falls.
Born in Flushing, Ohio on Feb. 20, 1921 to the late James and Susanna Carroll, Marie had lived in Akron for almost 60 years before moving to Florida in 1983. She had been a Cuyahoga Falls resident since 1997. Marie was a graduate of East High School and was employed by the Goodyear Relief Association. She was a longtime member of the High Street Christian Church, as well as the East Market St. Christian Church, and was a Sunday School teacher at both churches. While in Florida she was president of the Ladies Auxiliary at the HCA Medical Center in Port-St. Lucie. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Elva Chapter and served as their matron for two years.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Burley and her granddaughter, Debra Burley. She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Charles of Cuyahoga Falls; her children, Patricia (David) Grimes of Uniontown, Carol (David) Lewis of Cuyahoga Falls, Roger (Vicky) Burley of Brandon, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert Burley II, Robin Thayer, Karen (Kurt) Camden, Kathryn (Woody) Harvey, Cheri (Dennis) King, Christen (Joseph) Stanley, Timothy Burley, Brian (Reiko) Burley, as well as 21 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the staffs of both the Gardens of Western Reserve and Hospice of Summa for the compassionate and loving care that was given to Marie and her family.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, at 1 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL, 247 Stow Ave. (at Third St., one block north of Portage Trail) in Cuyahoga Falls, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Summa, 444 N. Main St., Akron, OH 44310.
