Wilma Joan Colvin, age 89, formerly of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at Credo Senior Living, Chanute, Kansas. Joan was born May 26,1934, in Humboldt, Kansas to David "Pat" Arland Fugitt and Velma Pauline (Bowen) Fugitt.
Joan graduated from Humboldt High School in 1952. Joan married Ray Colvin on August 9, 1953, in Humboldt, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. Joan worked at USD 413 Board of Education Office for 41 years, retiring in 1996.
Joan was known to many as Nanny. Nanny loved watching John Wayne, trips to Branson, music shows on the strip, and camping with friends. She and Poppy spent many nights around a campfire eating ham and beans, ice cold watermelon, and making homemade ice cream. Nanny's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially playing board games and baking cakes with her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; step-mother, Wyvona Cahill; a brother, Gilbert "Buster" Arland Fugitt; one step-brother, Raymond "Sonny" Clyde Smith; and one half sister, Patricia Gail Flaugher.
She is survived by her son, David Colvin of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, Ann Finley of Chanute, Kansas; four grandchildren, Lance Larson and wife Erin, Lindsey Peter and husband Nathan, Chelse Trollope and husband T.J., and Maya Colvin; nine great-grandchildren, Lowen, Lincoln, and Leni Larson, Brecca, Braylee, Brax, Brynna Peter, and Tylee Trollope; one sister, Shirley King and husband Bob, Wichita, Kansas; sister-law Louise Edgerle of El Dorado, Kansas; sister-in-law Barbara Colvin, of Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law Doris Fugitt of Humboldt, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
