Surviving are his wife, Helen McFarland Bennett; a son, Thomas Bennett of Auburn, Ala.; a daughter, Annette Amshoff of Louisville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren He was the son of the late Albert Luther and Katharine Fultz Bennett.
He had lived most of his life in the Raleigh-Durham area and was president of Golden Belt Manufacturing Co. Mr. Bennett was an Army veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church in Cary.
