Hazel Mae Adams, 95, beloved mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord March 5, 2003. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she met and married her husband of 59 years, Joseph (Joe) Adams. In 1948, they traveled the Mother Road to California, which she has always referred to as God's Country.

She worked as a retail saleswoman for Dary's, Alton's, Lee's, and Kathy's among other Barstow stores. She also owned a drapery and upholstery business. She moved to Hammond, Indiana, in 1962 for a brief period to help her sisters establish Manil's, a store for women's fashion, and then returned to Barstow to reunite with her family.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Joe; brothers, Ralph, Earl, and Carl Burch; sisters, Dortha Burch, Nell Clusserath, Gladys Dornick, and Esther Slack; and sons, Robert (Jake) and William (Shorty) Adams. She is survived by her sister, Estelle (Petie) Goldsmith; son, Don Adams; daughters-in-law, Florence, and Marilyn Adams, all of Barstow; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

The cornerstones of her life were love of God, family, hard work, and a sense of humor. Her passing is not a cause for grief as much as a celebration and hope of reunion in eternity.

A memorial service will be held April 1, 2003, at the Church of Christ, Barstow.
