Ida Belle Curtis was the daughter of Benjamin Curtis and Esther Caples. She married Robert S. McDonald on January 29, 1881 in White County, Indiana. Their known children are Benjamin Curtis McDonald, Maud McDonald, Berta Valeria McDonald, Ella McDonald, John Walker McDonald, Esther Ann McDonald, and Maybelle McDonald.
