EAST LAKE - Joseph Nathaniel Spruill, 87, died Friday, Nov. 3, at his residence.

Mr. Spruill was born in Columbia and was a retired N.C. Department of Transportation ferry engineer. He was a member of the East Lake Holiness Church.

He was the son of the late James Harvey and Minnie Mae Swain Spruill and the husband of Minnie Taft Spruill.

Surviving are his wife; two brothers: Foster C. Spruill of Virginia Beach, Va. and Charlie A. Spruill of Kitty Hawk; one son, Thomas R. Spruill of Columbia; four daughters: Violet S. Cahoon and Dianne S. Ambrose, both of East Lake, Alma S. Basnight of Manteo and Marian S. Anderson of Virginia Beach; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 6 at the East Lake Holiness Church by the Rev. Calvin Twiddy. Burial followed at the East Lake Methodist Church Cemetery. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, was in charge of the arrangements.
