Arthur Herbert Austin, 74, of rural Dieterich died Wednesday in St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Mr. Austin was born March 24, 1906 in Effingham, the son of Frank and Eda Abraham Austin. He married Dorothy Adams on June 16, 1936 and she survives.

He was a retired employee of Norge Corp. in Effingham and a substitute mail carrier. He was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Elliottstown.

Other survivors include a son David A. of Royal Oaks, MI; daughter, Mrs. Merl K. (Nancy) Miller of Dieterich; a brother Gilbert of Salem, OR; sister, Margaret Knight of Urbana and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Austin were held at the Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Elliottstown.

Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation, Mount Zion United Methodist Church Building Improvement Fund or the American Diabetes Foundation.
