Calvin White, the son of Elijah and Julia White, was born and raised on a farm in Jones Prairie, Milam County Texas, on October 11, 1847. He was educated in country schools. He stayed on the family farm, eventually inheriting the homestead, continuing a life of agriculture and raising livestock.
On January 8, 1874, Calvin married Louise Little, widow of Lucius Little, and daughter of James and Nancy Oliver. Together they had eight children: Elizabeth (daughter by Louise's first marriage), Gertrude, Walter Edwin, Lillian Alberta, Amanda C., Benjamin Oliver, Sidney Augustus, and Claudius Oliver.
Calvin and Louise White were members of the Baptist Church, plus he also belonged to the Masons as well, being the Past Master of Little River Lodge, No. 397, A.F. & A.M.
