Note: after her mother's death, Frances was adopted and raised by her father's sister, Ina Alderman White and her husband George Charles White.

Frances White Shoemaker, 80, a homemaker, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Tallahassee. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack Shoemaker. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191). Family will receive friends following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kappa Delta Fund, 2008 Dogwood Hill, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Frances was born in Jacksonville and was a longtime resident of Tallahassee. She was a graduate of Leon High School and Florida State College of Women, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Frances was also a performer in the FSU Circus. She was a former elementary school teacher. She was a member of the Baby's Breath Garden Club.

Other survivors include her children, Rick Shoemaker, Tom Shoemaker and Sally Shoemaker Scott; sons-in-law, Randy Scott and Rick Hill; five grandchildren, Rebecca Hill Turner, and husband Wade, Kate Hill, Zack Scott, Austin Scott and Ben Scott; brothers, Bill Alderman, and wife Judy, and T.J. Alderman, and wife Mary; and a sister, Jan Townsend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jay and Maybelle Alderman; her adoptive parents, George and Ina White; and her daughter, Suzanne Shoemaker Hill.
