Charles Alfred Grant, age 75 of Edwardsville, KS died on Monday October 9th, 2023 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 14th at 11am with visitation before starting at 9:30am at Bonner Springs United Methodist Church. Family burial to follow at a later date in Edwardsville Cemetery in Edwardsville, KS.

Charles was born on October 16th, 1947 in Wichita, KS to Esther and Maurice Grant. He grew up in Wichita, KS. As a teenager he earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated high school and then moved in 1969 to attend Southwestern College. He met his wife, Judy, while attending St. Paul's School of Theology. They were married in August 1971. He was a student pastor and served Westphalia and Cherry Mound, KS and Centerview and Houts Chapel, MO. After graduation in 1973, his ministry in the United Methodist Church took him all over western, KS. He served churches in Alton, Hanover, Barnes, Washington, Greenleaf, Kinsley, Bucklin, Ford, Larned, Garfield, Arkansas City, and Hillsboro. He also did a pulpit exchange in Nelson, England for 6 weeks in 1994. Charles loved being a father to Jeremy and Eric. He was happy to welcome Lauren as a daughter-in-law in 2001 when she married Jeremy. His first grandson, Oren, was born in 2003. After both of their children had grown up and left the house, Charles and Judy welcomed Jungsu Eun as an exchange student from South Korea in 2004. They also welcomed Shirley Leftwich as part of the family in 2005. Benjamin was born to Jeremy and Lauren in 2005 to complete the family. Charles retired from the ministry in 2011 and they moved to Edwardsville, KS. A year after retiring he became the pastor of congregational care at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church until his death.
Charles loved all things trains, especially steam trains. He also enjoyed amateur radio and astronomy. He liked computers and shared that with his children and grandchildren. He loved music and singing in the church choirs. Charles and Judy enjoyed traveling all over the world and took many cruises during his retirement.
Charles was very active in the communities he lived in and was a part of United Methodist Men, Lions Club, Boy Scouts, and prison ministries. While in Bonner Springs he was a part of Feed His Lambs and chairperson for the board of trustees for Vaughn-Trent and the church tithe garden.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Esther.
Charles is survived by his wife Judith. Sons - Jeremy (Lauren) of Edwardsville, KS and Eric (Austin, TX), and Jungsu Eun (Seoul, South Korea). Daughter - Shirley Leftwich (Baltimore, MD). His two grandsons Oren and Benjamin Grant. Sisters- Gaylia and Mary (both of Wichita, KS) He is also much loved and missed by many nieces and nephews along with extended church family and friends.
