MAIN CROSSWALK PROVES FATAL FOR LOCAL WOMAN

Vervene G. Rasmussen of Vernal, 71, was fatally injured Friday at 4:04 p.m. when struck by a pickup truck on Main Street in front of Ashton's store.

According to David R. Jacobsen, investigating officer, Mrs. Rasmussen was crossing from the south side of the roadway to the north side when a car driven by Evan John Lively, Sr. 27, of Vernal skidded through the crosswalk and hit her, throwing her several feet forward from the impact area.

Mrs. Rasmussen was taken to the Uintah County Hospital where she died shortly after her arrival.

Mr. Lively was cited for pedestrian right of way, according to Mr. Jacobsen. No damage was done to the automobile involved.

Funeral servides for Mrs. Rasmussen were held Monday at noon in the Vernal Third Ward Chapel. Bishop Irwin Haws conducted. Lloyd Glines gave the prayer at the mortuary. Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Schaefermeyer played prelude and postlude music.

Dallas Lowe, grandson, gave the invocation. A vocal duet, "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked," was sung by Marva Lent and Elizabeth Sowards. Bishop Haws gave the obituary and remarks.

Bob Lowe, grandson, sang a vocal solo, "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by his mother, Barbara Lowe. A male quartet consisting of grandsons, Dalls, Bob, Phillip and Steven Lowe, sang, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine." Speakers were Adrian Kump, former Lapoint Ward bishop and Phil Watkins, cousin.

The closing song, "Goin' Home" was sung by a ladies trio, Roberta Ufford, Elizabeth Sowards and Marva Lent. Max Rasmussen, nephew, gave the benediction.

Burial was in the Maeser Cemetery. Stephen Perry, brother-in-law, dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dallas, Bob, Phillip, Steven and Dick Lowe, Bruce and Daryl Colton.

Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Bigelow, Helen and Elaine Zolintakis, the Gillman cousins, the Frank Glineses, the Mary Glines family, Telinthia Rasmussen, Jess Butcher, Mabel Olsen and Virginia.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born December 24, 1898 in Vernal to John Franklin and Mary McKowen Glines. She married Thurmer T. Rasmussen, July 1, 1921 in Duchesne. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died August 30, 1965.

Mrs. Rasmussen and husband were early pioneers of the Lapoint area, and she was a resident of Lapoint for 43 years. She was active in the LDS Church where she taught the spiritual living class for 13 years in Lapoint.

She was an active member of the Utah Pioneers and the American Association of Retired Persons, Vernal.
