Earl Clair Baker, 89, of Oblong, IL passed away on October 6, 2023, at Crawford Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to RI and Pearl (Wiman) Baker in Grandville Township. He served in the United States Army as a medic from 1953 to 1955, then in the Army reserves from 1955-1961. He married Leah (Tracy) Baker on August 25, 1955. To this union was born three children.
Earl lived on the family farm and was a grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of the White Oak Christian Church, where he served in many jobs, including superintendent and deacon. He was a Jasper County Farm Bureau director and a member of the American Legion.
He attended Oblong High School in 1948 and 1949. He then attended Newton High School in 1950 and graduated in 1951. He was an avid motorcycle rider, belonging to the Tri County Goldwings. He enjoyed camping and spending winters in Florida.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings Mary (Baker) and Mac Miller, Paul Baker, Lela (Baker) and Floyd Smith and Warren Baker. Three sisters-in-laws Virginia (Tracy) and Steve Earlewine, Donna (Tracy) and Marion Miller, and Bob and JoAnn (Carney) Tracy.
Burial in White Oak Cemetery.
