Richard Wachter, age 91, of Bloomfield, Nebraska died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his family.


Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996, American Legion Post 249, and United States Army Honor Guard.


Burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery in Bloomfield.


Richard Wachter was born September 6, 1932, at Rosalie, Nebraska to Walter and Hannah (Pedersen) Wachter. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rosalie. Richard attended Parks School through the eighth grade and then attended Lyons Public High School, graduating in 1950.


After graduation, Richard moved to a farm at Willis, Nebraska, where he continued farming until he entered the Army on February 10, 1953, serving until he was discharged on February 2, 1955, having spent 16 months in Korea.


On November 30, 1955, Richard and Susan Lile were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Debra, Katherine, Connie, and twins Diane and Danny.


They continued to farm at Willis until 1967, when they moved to Wausa. Richard and Susan farmed at Wausa from 1967 until 1996 when they had a farm sale due to Richard's myasthenia gravis diagnosis. He then worked for Terra (CVA) in Bloomfield for the next eight years.


In 2004, Richard and Susan moved to Bloomfield where he resided until his death.


Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Susan; children, Debra (Eric) Stinson of Norfolk, Kathy Wachter-Heinle of Lincoln, Connie (Bert) Wagner of Creighton, Diane (Dave) Kumm of Bloomfield, and Danny (Kim) Wachter of Wausa; 11 grandchildren, Claire and Michael Stinson, Tian Heinle, Jake Wagner, Beth (Nick) Stelling, Sam (Shaleena) Elsberry, Gage and Cooper Kumm, Sadie (Aaron) Kalin, Collin (Ashton) Wachter, and Michelle (Brandon) Kroeger; 12 great-grandchildren, Piper, Parker, and Padden Stelling, Lane and Cabela Murray, Teegan Timm, Ripp Elsberry, Dusty and Harley Kalin, and Haisley, Easton, Landon Wachter; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hannah Wachter; parents-in-law, Walter and Gertie Lile; a precious granddaughter, Natalie Grace Elsberry; sister, Ione and husband Gunnar Nelsen; brother, Rollin and wife Jeanne Wachter; and In-laws, Jim and Rosemary Lile, Robert and Carol Lile, Bill and Susan Lile, Veronica and Raymond Paustian, and Marjorie Lee.
